Jill Stuart Black Cat Eyeliner

Although most of my friends and icons swear by it, I am still not 100% sold on gel eyeliner. I know all of the reasons why I should use it, but usually when I try, the line ends up smudging, the brush isn’t right, the color is too light, the liner get sticky or streaky by the end of the day… there is always something wrong. Which is why I usually just stick to liquid. However, I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to try the Jill Stuart Black Cat Gel Eyeliner that Lauren raves so much about. It’s technically not available in America but lucky for me, Lauren gave me a pot to test out for myself.

It’s quite possible that this could be the liner that converts me. The pot itself is adorable and the liner is smooth and creamy. It’s thick, but not so thick that it won’t glide easily over the eyelid. I used a MAC #266 brush to put it on and over 12 hours later, the line is still thick and sharp, no running or caking to be seen. It dries smooth with an opaque matte finish. To apply, I dab the brush in the pot, then smooth that inside the cover and flip the pot upside down so it won’t dry out. I then coat the brush with the smudge inside the cover and apply. Not much is needed for a full line and I only have to re-dab my brush once or twice. Make sure to clean your brush after using it! Otherwise the gel will harden and your brush will feel like it was dipped in glue. I use Sephora’s Daily Brush Cleaner.

Considering my go-to liquid eyeliner is almost completely empty, I imagine Jill Stuart Black Cat eyeliner will now take its place as my daily staple.

I’ve never thought about turning the pot upside down! What a good idea!

I actually learned that trick via an interview with Dita Von Teese!
